The Maria Tour

On this unique walk, we visit Antwerp’s most prominent churches dedicated to Mary — the Cathedral of Our Lady, St. Charles Borromeo Church, and St. Paul’s Church. Strolling through the historic city centre, we’ll stop by several of the city’s many street-corner Mary statues.

In her many forms, Mary mediates between us and Antwerp’s layered past. You’ll see well-known landmarks from a completely new perspective and discover secret corners even locals tend to overlook. After this tour, you’ll never look at Antwerp the same way again!

The Maria Tour in the KMSKA

Join the Maria Tour inside the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp (KMSKA)!

During this guided visit, we take a closer look at the many depictions of Mary found throughout the museum’s permanent collection.

Together we’ll dive into masterpieces by artists such as Rubens, Rogier van der Weyden, and Jean Fouquet, exploring how each of them portrayed Mary as mother, intercessor, and icon of beauty and devotion.

The Beguinage Tour

Step into the serene world of Antwerp’s beguines — a quiet oasis that tells a story of independence and community.

Imagine a group of unmarried women, living together in the heart of the city, forming a kind of co-housing avant la lettre. Since the late Middle Ages, these women carved out a unique way of life: secluded yet deeply connected to Antwerp’s social and economic fabric.

As we wander through the peaceful Beguinage, we’ll uncover traces of their remarkable history — a story of faith, resilience, and female agency.

The Queer Tour (KMSKA)

Take a fresh, queer look at the permanent collection of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp (KMSKA).

Queer people have always existed — but how have they been represented in art through the centuries? In this tour, we’ll explore themes of gender and sexuality in religious paintings, portraits, and sculptures.

This guided visit invites you to see the museum’s collection from a new angle and to reflect on what these works can reveal about gender, sexuality, and the many ways of being human.
